Zach Neto Scratched Tuesday
1 year agoLos Angeles Angels rookie shortstop Zach Neto (back) said he felt good enough to play on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers, but manager Phil Nevin made the call to scratch him. Nevin said he'd be surprised if Neto didn't play on Wednesday. Neto missed the final two games of the weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to a back issue and will miss one more day despite an off day on Monday. Andrew Velazquez is playing shortstop again and is batting ninth against Tigers left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. The 22-year-old Neto has earned most of the playing time at shortstop for the Angels this year in his first MLB season by hitting .252/.328/.432 with eight home runs, 27 RBI, five stolen bases and 30 runs scored in 206 at-bats.
