Tyrod Taylor 2021 Outlook: Likely to be Backup in Houston
3 years agoTyrod Taylor started the first game of the season last year for the Los Angeles Chargers and was effective. He went 16-for-30 for 208 yards. He also ran six times for seven yards as Los Angeles ground out a 16-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Taylor expected to start the next week against the Kansas City Chiefs. A pre-game injury sidelined the quarterback and Justin Herbert took over. Herbert never looked back as Taylor saw practice reps and one single rep the rest of 2020. The soon-to-be 32-year-old quarterback signed with the Houston Texans in the offseason. He expects to see little game action in 2021 unless Deshaun Watson's legal troubles cost him regular season action. His three years as a starter in Buffalo point him to be a serviceable backup much like he was as a starter. Do not expect gaudy numbers if he sees game action. His career interception percentage is 1.4% but his touchdown percentage is just 3.9%. Do not expect much and Taylor will get sacked a good bit. He has been sacked two times a game in his career and 2.89 times per contest as a starter. Again, if Watson misses any amount of time, Taylor can at least steer things in the right direction until the starter returns. He will be an occasional streamer in single quarterback leagues, but a strong QB2 in Superflex formats.
