Trey Sermon Comfortable With Kyle Shanahan's Offense
4 years agoSan Francisco 49ers rookie running back Trey Sermon, who was selected 89th overall out of Ohio State in last month's draft, said he focused on studying the Niners outside-zone running scheme when he was preparing to transfer from Oklahoma to Ohio State. Shanahan likes to use his running backs as rushers and receivers, and Sermon had 339 carries for 2,076 yards and 22 touchdowns while also catching 36 passes for 391 yards and three more touchdowns in three seasons at Oklahoma. He improved to 7.5 yards per carry on 116 carries for 870 yards and four TDs at Ohio State, adding 12 catches for 95 yards. Injuries will be a concern at the next level, and it remains to be seen if Sermon will have much of a role in his rookie season with Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr. and JaMychal Hasty also in the fold. Sermon will be a much better dynasty asset in 2021.
