Arizona State first baseman Spencer Torkelson and Vanderbilt center fielder/third baseman Austin Martin are the top two candidates to go first overall in this year's draft to the Detroit Tigers. The consensus is that Torkelson is the best power hitter available and Martin is the best pure hitter. Torkelson has double-plus raw power and broke Barry Bonds' freshman record with 25 home runs in 2018. Martin has a compact swing and excellent hand-eye coordination that allows him to hit line drives often. He led the SEC in average (.392) and on-base percentage (.486) while leading Vanderbilt to the World Series title in 2019. Martin provides a broader range of tools, but Torkelson's power is close to MLB-ready right now. Detroit has six weeks before they make their pick, but most teams think they're leaning towards Torkelson and his plus-plus power.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
