Speculation Continues About Dez Bryant Signing in Green Bay
7 years agoIan Rapoport of the NFL Network confirmed that there had been some discussion within Green Bay about signing free-agent wide receiver Dez Bryant. The recently retired Jason Witten had previously made a prediction that Bryant would wind up signing in Green Bay and the report from Rapoport suggests that he may not be far off. Still, the two parties are not currently engaged in talks and there is no sign that anything is imminent. The signing would be a bit confusing for Green Bay. They just cut a highly paid veteran with declining athleticism in Jordy Nelson. It would not make much sense to replace him with a highly paid veteran with declining athleticism in Bryant. Although Bryant was once a dominant receiver, his performance over recent years has been a bit disappointing. Green Bay seems satisfied that it had sufficiently bolstered its receiving corps with three draft picks in the 2018 NFL draft, which makes such a move seem unlikely. Still, where there is smoke there is fire, and the situation should be closely monitored. Bryan't fantasy value for 2018 will depend on where he lands, but at this point in his career he may be nothing more than a touchdown-dependent WR4.
