Samaje Perine Figures To Have Significant Role
2 years agoRegardless of whether Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams (knee) is ready to go for Week 1 of the regular season, Samaje Perine figures to have a significant role in the team's offense in his first year in Denver. It may not be the most sizable workload he's had in his career -- he had a career-high 175 carries for 603 yards in his rookie year with Washington -- but it should be a decent role nonetheless. "When we signed Samaje, this is a guy that gave us flexibility," head coach Sean Payton said. "We signed him because we knew he was durable and reliable. We felt like we got another solid runner who's built in a strong way." The 27-year-old averaged 4.4 yards per carry and also caught 76 passes in the last three seasons with the Bengals, so he'll be a necessary handcuff for those that draft Williams in 2023.
