Ryne Nelson Looks Good In Final Spring Outing
2 years agoArizona Diamondbacks right-hander Ryne Nelson finished off his spring with a strong outing in Tuesday's Cactus League finale against the Cleveland Guardians by allowing one earned run on four hits while walking none and striking out five in 5 2/3 innings pitched. Nelson wasn't exactly lights-out this spring, but he finished on a strong note and won the team's No. 5 rotation spot over Drey Jameson, Tommy Henry and Brandon Pfaadt, which will give him appeal in deeper leagues as a streaming option. The 25-year-old will make his 2023 debut on Monday on the road in a tough matchup against the San Diego Padres, so we recommend avoiding him in that one. Nelson has good stuff, but expect some more growing pains in 2023.
