Rockies Likely To Consider Extension For Trevor Story
4 years agoWith the Colorado Rockies agreeing to a blockbuster deal to send third baseman Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals, the team will now likely try to lock shortstop Trevor Story up on a long-term contract extension. But it remains to be seen if Story would be interested in an extension, as he could be turned off by the Arenado saga with Colorado after the All-Star signed an extension before the 2019 season. But there will also be a ton of competition in a loaded free-agent shortstop class after the 2021 season, when Story is slated to become a free agent. With the Rockies unlikely to contend with Arenado gone, the Rockies best chance to acquire young, controllable talent would be to trade Story. The 28-year-old is one of the best all-around shortstops in the game with plenty of power and speed, and his fantasy profile will be the strongest if he remains at hitter-friendly Coors Field. There are fewer safe selections than Story at the end of the first round in fantasy drafts.
