Pirates Fire Derek Shelton
Don Kelly, who was a bench coach. Shelton has been the manager of the Pirates since the 2020 season. Through six seasons, Shelton held an overall 306-440 record. He never had a winning record. He only surpassed the 75-win total twice during his tenure. His .316 winning percentage, which he held during the opening month of the 2025 campaign, was on pace to be the worst mark of his career. The Pirates will now turn to Kelly to help save their season. Given their disappointing start, they could look to move some of their veterans at the trade deadline. Currently, they have two of the youngest stars in the sport in Oneil Cruz and Paul Skenes, but have yet to provide them with a competitive roster.
