Peter Alonso Is Dominating Double-A
Peter Alonso may have a few guys ahead of him on the depth chart, but he’s certainly making his best case to do some leapfrogging pretty soon. The 23-year-old is dominating Double-A Binghamton, slashing .357/.456/.625 with three home runs, six doubles, and 10 RBI through 16 games thus far. Alonso created a lot of buzz during spring training, but there’s simply no room for quick promotions right now. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be as the season progresses. Adrian Gonzalez hasn’t been very good for the Mets, and Dominic Smith isn’t playing great after starting out strong in the hitter-friendly PCL at Triple-A Las Vegas. We already know the Mets seem to have soured on Smith to a degree, so it’s possible Alonso gets a real opportunity sooner than originally thought.
