Boston Red Sox left-handed pitching prospect Payton Tolle tossed five innings of one-run ball against High-A Hudson Valley on Tuesday evening. In this outing, Tolle struck out eight batters for the second straight start and allowed just three hits and three walks. Throughout his first professional season, Tolle has flashed high-strikeout potential with High-A Greenville. Over his last 20 innings (four starts), the southpaw has struck out 30 batters and held a 3.10 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP. Through 43 2/3 innings of work, the left-hander has struck out an eye-catching 70 batters while holding a 3.92 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Given his steady production during his debut season, Tolle should be in the mix to reach Double-A later this summer. The No. 16-ranked prospect in the Boston system remains on track to reach the majors next season.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerRead More News
