The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed outfielder Ronny Simon (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list with a dislocated left shoulder and recalled infielder/outfielder Cam Devanney from Triple-A Indianapolis. Simon suffered the injury as a pinch runner on Friday when he slid into home to score a run in a 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. It could prove to be a season-ender for the 25-year-old rookie, who opened 2025 with the Miami Marlins before joining the Pirates as a waiver pickup on June 2. Between the two teams this season, Simon has mustered an ineffective .234/.299/.273 line with seven RBI in 27 games and 88 plate appearances.--Connor ByrneSource: Alex Stumpf - MLB.com

Cleveland Guardians shortstop Gabriel Arias (wrist) is out of the lineup Saturday against Seattle Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert. Brayan Rocchio will take over at short and bat ninth. Arias left the Guardians' 5-4 win over the Mariners on Friday after starter George Kirby hit him in the right wrist with a 94.7 mph sinker in the second inning. While X-rays came back negative, Arias will still need at least one day off to recuperate. The 25-year-old has been a plus defender at short this season, but he hasn't contributed much offense since he debuted in 2022. Arias has taken 386 trips to the plate in 2025 and hit .222/.281/.362 with nine homers, 45 RBI, 36 runs scored, and six stolen bases.--Connor ByrneSource: MLB.com

The Pittsburgh Pirates have released left-hander Andrew Heaney, who went through waivers unclaimed after the team designated him for assignment on Tuesday. Heaney joined the Pirates on a one-year, $5.25 million contract over the winter, and it looked like a wise investment for a few months. The 34-year-old owned a 3.33 ERA after his 14th start of the season on June 12, but the wheels began coming off after that. Heaney struggled enough over the ensuing several weeks that the Pirates demoted him to their bullpen earlier this month. In his final appearance with the Pirates, Heaney coughed up five earned runs in two-thirds of an inning in a 7-6 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Aug. 25. The journeyman threw 120 1/3 innings as a Pirate and went 5-10 with a 5.39 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and 84:39 K:BB.--Connor ByrneSource: MLB.com

New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (finger, thumb) is back in the lineup for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Alvarez suffered a sprained UCL in his right thumb on Aug. 17 and began a rehab assignment on Wednesday, but he exited his first game early after fracturing his left pinkie on a hit by pitch. Fortunately for Alvarez and the Mets, it wasn't a serious enough injury to shelve him for more than a couple of days. The 23-year-old remains on track to return sometime in September, and he'll reclaim his spot as the Mets' starting catcher when he comes back. Alvarez, a much better hitter than backup Luis Torrens, has slashed .265/.349/.438 with seven homers, 24 RBI, and 24 runs scored in 209 plate appearances this season.--Connor ByrneSource: Anthony DiComo - MLB.com

The Boston Red Sox are unsure if left-handed pitching prospect Payton Tolle will make his next start on Wednesday against the Cleveland Guardians, manager Alex Cora told the media. Because Tolle isn't accustomed to pitching on four days' rest, the Red Sox could wait until later in the week to give him the ball again. One of baseball's premier pitching prospects, the 22-year-old held his own in his debut on Friday. The Red Sox suffered a 4-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, but Tolle didn't factor into the decision after throwing 5 1/3 innings of two-run, three-hit ball and logging eight strikeouts against two walks. He became the first Red Sox starter to punch out at least eight in his debut since Daisuke Matsuzaka in 2007.--Connor ByrneSource: Tim Healey - Boston Globe

The Boston Red Sox have reinstated first baseman Nathaniel Lowe (personal) from the paternity list and optioned infielder Nick Sogard to Triple-A Worcester. However, Lowe is out of the lineup for the third game in a row on Saturday. Romy Gonzalez will play first base and bat sixth against Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Johan Oviedo. Lowe signed with the Red Sox on Aug. 18 after the Washington Nationals released him, and he has been effective in his first nine games with his new team. Over 32 plate appearances with Boston, Lowe has gone 8-for-27 with one home, seven RBI, five runs scored, and four walks.--Connor ByrneSource: Tim Healey - Boston Globe

The Washington Nationals have placed left-hander MacKenzie Gore (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation. The team made the move retroactive to Aug. 27 and recalled righty Mason Thompson from Triple-A Rochester to take Gore's roster spot. Although the last-place Nationals are about to enter the final month of their season, Gore implied that he expects to return in 2025, saying an MRI of his shoulder didn't reveal anything "crazy," according to Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com. The 26-year-old earned an All-Star nod thanks to a strong first half (3.02 ERA), but his performance has fallen off drastically over the past month and a half. Gore has given up six or more runs in three of eight outings since the All-Star break and has picked up just two quality starts in that span. Over 147 1/3 innings this season, Gore has gone 5-13 with a 4.15 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and 173:55 K:BB.--Connor ByrneSource: Mark Zuckerman - MASNsports.com

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement (finger, shin) is out of the lineup again on Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Addison Barger will handle the hot corner in place of Clement and hit second in a meeting with right-hander Quinn Priester. Clement hasn't played since he was involved in a collision at third base on Tuesday. He suffered a hairline fracture in his middle finger and required 10 stitches, and he has been considered day-to-day since. The versatile 29-year-old has hit .274/.310/.396 with nine homers, 40 RBI, 66 runs scored, and four stolen bases over 131 games and 497 plate appearances.--Connor ByrneSource: MLB.com

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hand) is out of the lineup for Game 2 of the series against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, but he's doing well, according to manager John Schneider. Varsho is just dealing with some pain and swelling after X-rays came back negative after he was hit by a pitch on his right hand in Friday's loss. The Blue Jays well test him out to see if he could be a defensive replacement or pinch-hitter on Saturday. Myles Straw will start in center field and bat ninth against Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester. It sounds as though the 29-year-old Varsho is day-to-day and has a shot to return to a starting role for Sunday's series finale in Toronto. Straw has modest speed (11 steals) for a bench outfielder but should be avoided in DFS lineups out of the nine-hole against a pitcher he has yet to face in his career.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com - Keegan Matheson

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews had a nice performance in the team's 4-1 loss to the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two stolen bases out of the eight-hole in the batting order. It was Crews' first game of the year with multiple stolen bases, and he's now 14-for-17 on stolen-base attempts in 2025. Overall, though, it has been a rather disappointing season for the 23-year-old former second overall pick in 2023. Crews has played in only 59 games this season due to an oblique strain that cost him extended time. And since he returned from that injury in the middle of August, he's hit .229/.327/.333 with no homers, four RBI and nine runs scored. Crews is barely above the Mendoza Line in his first full MLB season, but fantasy managers have to hope his big game on Friday can help him finish strong in September.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com

Los Angeles Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson was feeling it as a new father on Friday evening in his return from the paternity list in his start on the road against the division-rival Houston Astros at Daikin Park. Although Anderson didn't factor into the decision in a 2-0 loss, he looked good, tossing five shutout innings with five hits allowed, three walks and one strikeout. The 35-year-old veteran southpaw didn't get much swing and miss in this one, but it was nevertheless a nice bounce-back outing for him after posting a rough 6.13 ERA in his previous eight starts for the Halos. Friday's outing was his first start in seven days, so the extra time off between starts appeared to do him some good. He will try to make it two solid outings in a row when he takes on the Kansas City Royals next week. Anderson is now 2-8 on the season with a 4.56 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 104:57 K:BB in 26 starts in 2025.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com

New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. didn't get a hit in Friday night's 10-2 blowout win over the hosting Chicago White Sox, but he still managed to reach a noteworthy milestone for the season. Chisholm went 0-for-3 with two walks and two runs and also stole a base to reach the 25-homer, 25-steal mark in his first full season in pinstripes. It's the first time that the 27-year-old has accomplished the feat in his sixth MLB campaign. Chisholm is now hitting .240/.339/.490 with an .829 OPS, 26 long balls, 66 RBI, 65 runs scored and 25 steals in 103 games played in 2025. He's been running wild of late on the basepaths, going a perfect 11-for-11 on steal attempts in his last 17 games. In 25 games in August, he's gone 19-for-85 (.224) with eight homers, a double, triple, 17 RBI, 20 runs and 11 steals. Chisholm's move to the Bronx has most certainly been a plus for his overall fantasy upside.--Keith HernandezSource: mlb.com

The Milwaukee Brewers have optioned outfielder Brandon Lockridge to Triple-A Nashville as the corresponding move to outfielder Jackson Chourio's (hamstring) activation from the 10-day injured list. Lockridge was acquired by the Brewers at the trade deadline from the San Diego Padres. In 20 games (53 plate appearances) for Milwaukee, Lockridge has slashed .261/.308/.370 with six RBI and two stolen bases. The 28-year-old's value comes from his speed and defense, so he's unlikely to be more than a fourth outfielder even if he's eventually recalled by Milwaukee.--Will BradySource: Milwaukee Brewers
