10 mins agoMilwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras (head) is not in the starting lineup on Monday versus the hosting Los Angeles Angels. Contreras collided with Cincinnati Reds outfielder Stuart Fairchild in a play at home plate on Sunday in the 5-4 win and was checked for a concussion following the game. It's unclear if Contreras is actually dealing with a concussion, but he won't play in Monday's series opener in Anaheim and could be a candidate to land on the seven-day concussion list if he doesn't improve in the next couple of days. When healthy, the 26-year-old backstop is a must-start at the shallow catcher position in fantasy, as he's currently slashing .305/.367/.467 with an .834 OPS, nine home runs, 48 RBI and five stolen bases in 285 at-bats. Gary Sanchez is catching and batting eighth against Angels right-hander Jose Soriano on Monday and will see more playing time if Contreras misses more time.Source: Milwaukee Brewers
15 mins agoNew York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (arm) suffered a fracture to the radial neck of his right arm on Sunday against the division-rival Boston Red Sox but will not need surgery, according to a person with knowledge of the injury. Still, Rizzo could miss anywhere from four to six weeks. It's unclear what the Yankees will do with Rizzo on the shelf, but it seems likely that they will move third baseman DJ LeMahieu to first base and give utility man Oswaldo Cabrera most of the playing time at third base. The injury occurred when Rizzo collided with Boston reliever Brennan Berardino while running down the line to beat out a ground ball. The 34-year-old three-time All-Star has mostly struggled at the plate this year for the Bombers, hitting only .223 (59-for-264) with eight homers and 28 RBI. Cabrera will be a popular waiver-wire pickup in deeper fantasy leagues.Source: The Athletic - Ken Rosenthal, Brendan Kuty and Chris Kirschner
22 mins agoColorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) was out at Coors Field on Monday doing a full day of baseball activities before the series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rockies are still deciding if Rodgers will go on a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque before he is reinstated from the injured list. Once he returns from the IL, rookie infielder Adael Amador is likely to head back to Double-A Hartford to continue his development. The 27-year-old Rodgers is eligible to come off the 10-day IL on Tuesday, but it remains to be seen if that will happen. Either way, he's close to rejoining Colorado as their everyday second baseman. The former first-rounder is having one of his better seasons in the big leagues to this point with a .275 average, three home runs, 22 RBI and 24 runs scored in 59 games.Source: DNVR Sports - Patrick Lyons
29 mins agoColorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle (knee) is starting in center field and is batting leadoff for the Rockies on Monday for the series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers and left-hander James Paxton. Left-patellar tendonitis kept Doyle out the last two games, but he's feeling better now and is ready to roll to start the new week. The 26-year-old should be returned to starting fantasy lineups against a vulnerable left-hander while batting out of the leadoff spot. Doyle is hitting .268 (64-for-239) with five homers, 19 RBI and 18 stolen bases in his 67 games in 2024 after hitting just .203 with 10 homers and 22 steals in 126 games in his first year in the big leagues in 2023. Doyle has yet to homer against a southpaw this year, but he's gone 14-for-51 (.275) against them and is hitting over .300 in the last two weeks.Source: MLB.com
51 mins agoArizona Diamondbacks shortstop prospect Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) is expected to miss an extended period of time after suffering an injury during Saturday's game with Triple-A Reno. The 21-year-old underwent an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury. It's not good news as it appears Lawlar has suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain. The current timetable for Lawlar is 4-to-6 weeks. This obviously doesn't impact the current D-Backs roster but this is a bummer considering Lawlar is one of the top prospects in the game right now.Source: AZ Central
58 mins agoColorado Rockies relief pitcher Justin Lawrence (shoulder) has been activated from the 15-day injured list on Monday. The right-hander will return to the bullpen after missing three weeks of action due to a shoulder strain. The assumption is that he'll work his way back into the closer mix, but this is a situation to avoid right now. Lawrence holds a 5.91 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 21 1/3 innings of work. Possibly some time off has helped Lawrence get back on track.Source: Rockies PR
1 hour agoLos Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani will move up into the leadoff spot ahead of Monday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers will shake up their lineup and have Ohtani bat first and Will Smith bat second with Freddie Freeman in the three-hole. The move to put Ohtani in the leadoff spot appears to be a good one. He's coming off a two home run performance and is one of the best hitters in the game. He should get pitches to hit and has an added advantage of playing in Coors Field as well. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Ohtani in their lineups on Monday.Source: mlb.com
1 hour agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Suarez has been designated for assignment by the organization on Monday. This doesn't come as much of a shock given how poorly Suarez has pitched this season. Most recently, Suarez gave up five runs in one inning during Sunday's outing against the San Francisco Giants. He holds a 8.15 ERA in 35 1/3 innings of work this season. In a corresponding move, right-hander Zach Plesac has been recalled to take the vacant spot on the roster. Plesac hasn't seen much success this season, so this is more of a wait-and-see type of situation.Source: Angels PR
1 hour agoLos Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. This comes a day after Rengifo suffered a wrist contusion during Sunday's contest. Rengifo mentioned to reporters afterwards that he believes he could play on Monday. However, the Angels are taking the cautious approach and giving him the night off. In his absence, Brandon Drury will cover second base and bat sixth in his return to action.Source: mlb.com
2 hours agoLos Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury (hamstring) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The veteran slugger is back in the mix after missing nearly six weeks of action due to a strained hamstring. Drury was struggling with the bat before going down, so hopefully some time off will help him get back on track. He'll bat sixth and cover second base versus right-hander Chris Rodriguez on Monday.Source: mlb.com
2 hours agoTexas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) said he threw off a mound during a bullpen session on Monday for the first time since having Tommy John surgery last June. deGrom threw around 15 pitches on Monday and felt good after throwing all fastballs. The 35-year-old veteran hurler will continue to build his arm up with more bullpen sessions before he's eventually allowed to start facing live hitters. Before returning, the Rangers will have deGrom go on a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment as well, so his return from the 60-day injured list is still a ways off. deGrom could be a candidate to return to Texas' starting rotation later in the second half of the season, and he'll be a wild card in terms of his fantasy value as he continues his recovery process from elbow reconstruction. Fantasy managers wouldn't be wise to expect much from a pitcher who has made only 17 starts the last two years combined.Source: MLB.com - Kennedi Landry
2 hours agoTexas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (back, thumb) will come off the 60-day injured list and make his next start with the Rangers in the majors. Manager Bruce Bochy didn't give an exact date for Scherzer's 2024 debut, but this weekend against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Scherzer allowed three earned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out eight over 4 2/3 innings (79 pitches) in his final minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. Offseason back surgery kept the 39-year-old future Hall of Famer out for the start of the regular season, and a thumb injury pushed his rehab back even further. Scherzer could have a slight workload restriction in his first start back against an upstart Royals squad. He's no longer a fantasy ace, but when healthy, Scherzer still has the stuff to be a reliable midrange starter in fantasy in the right matchups.Source: RangersToday.com - Jeff Wilson
