9 mins agoTexas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia will start on the bench on Tuesday against the visiting New York Mets. This will be Garcia's first day off since April 27. Garcia hasn't been quite as good as he was as a second-time All-Star in 2023, but he still has 13 home runs, 40 RBI and six stolen bases in 285 plate appearances and 69 games in 2024. He's hitting just .213 (55-for-258) and has been even worse in the month of June in 15 games, going 8-for-55 (.146) with a homer, a double, three RBI, four walks and 16 strikeouts in 60 plate appearances. Garcia could probably use the day off to get his mind right for the final stretch before the All-Star break in the middle of next month. Travis Jankowski is starting in right field for the Rangers and will hit sixth against Mets right-hander Luis Severino. He has never faced Severino in his career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Texas Rangers PR

16 mins agoChicago Cubs outfielder Mike Tauchman (groin) is being placed on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 2 left-groin strain. Tauchman's injury will require four weeks to heal, and manager Craig Counsell said, "He's going to miss significant time." The 33-year-old left-handed slugger will not return to the Cubs' lineup until after the All-Star break. With Tauchman now out for the foreseeable future, Cody Bellinger figures to move back to more of a full-time role in the outfield, which will open up more playing time for Michael Busch at first base. Bellinger is in right field and is batting third on Tuesday against San Francisco Giants right-hander Logan Webb. Tauchman has seen a regular role in Chicago this year, batting .259 (57-for-220) with five home runs, 19 RBI, five stolen bases and 38 runs scored in 66 games played.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Chicago Tribune - Meghan Montemurro
Share:
25 mins agoChicago Cubs third baseman Christopher Morel will take a seat on the bench for Tuesday's contest against the visiting San Francisco Giants. Morel's average has dropped under .200 on the year and he has just one hit in 20 at-bats with five strikeouts in his last five games. In the month of June, he's gone 10-for-55 (.182) with three home runs, five RBI, five walks and 15 strikeouts in 63 plate appearances. The 24-year-old right-handed power bat has his fair share of hot and cold streaks. He's not going to help your fantasy team's average or on-base percentage, but he's still relevant for his pop (13 home runs), run production (40 RBI and 34 runs scored) and modest speed (seven stolen bases). David Bote will start at third and bat eighth on Tuesday against Giants right-hander Logan Webb. Bote will have limited fantasy appeal in DFS that low in the order.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

33 mins agoBoston Red Sox infielder David Hamilton (side) is not in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday versus the hosting Toronto Blue Jays. Hamilton left Monday's series opener in Canada early with left-side discomfort and will sit out for at least one game. Forread more...

39 mins agoThe Houston Astros placed right-hander Justin Verlander (neck) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 16) on Tuesday with neck discomfort and recalled right-hander Nick Hernandez from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. Verlander was scratched from his start last Saturday with neck discomfort and is now headed to the IL because he is unable to make his next scheduled start this Thursday against the Chicago White Sox. It remains to be seen if the 41-year-old veteran will be able to return to Houston's rotation before the All-Star break in early July. The three-time Cy Young winner got a late start to the year due to shoulder issues and has made just 10 starts in 2024, going 3-2 with a 3.95 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with a 21.3% strikeout rate and a 7.1% walk rate. Verlander isn't the strikeout artist he once was, but he should still be stashed in all fantasy leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Houston Astros

55 mins agoWashington Nationals outfield prospect James Wood (hamstring) was activated from the seven-day minor-league injured list on Tuesday and has returned to Triple-A Rochester. With fellow outfield prospect Dylan Crews being promoted from Double-A Harrisburg on Monday, Wood and Crews will return to the same outfield. Wood is Washington's top prospect and the No. 4 overall prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline, and the 21-year-old left-handed hitter has been one of the most productive hitters in the minors before his injury with a 1.061 OPS, nine home runs and 10 stolen bases in 45 games with the Red Wings. His injury set him back a bit, but as long as he stays healthy from here on out, his first big-league call-up should come sooner than later in 2024. With that said, Wood is an intriguing stash candidate, even in redraft leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MASN Sports - Bobby Blanco
Share:
1 hour agoWashington Nationals outfielder Jesse Winker (knee) has returned to Tuesday's lineup against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks and right-hander Slade Cecconi, playing in left field and batting third. Winker will return to the starting lineup for the first time since leaving Saturday's game early against the Miami Marlins with a right-knee injury that ended up not being very serious. The left-handed-hitting veteran has turned things around with the Nationals in 2024 and has hit a strong .386 (17-for-44) with seven RBI in 14 games in the month of June, but he has yet to record an extra-base hit and hasn't homered since May 20. Overall, he's batting .265/.378/.390 with six homers, 31 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 223 at-bats. Winker has never faced Cecconi in his career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Washington Nationals
Share:
1 hour agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. is taking his first day off of the season on Tuesday on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies. It's a much-needed break for Tatis, who was recently on a hot streak for the Friars. But after losing a 17-game hitting streak on May 25, Tatis has just two hits in his last 18 at-bats over five games. But on the season as a whole, the 25-year-old Dominican outfielder has been strong for San Diego and his fantasy managers, slashing .273/.348/.458 with an .806 OPS, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, eight stolen bases and 48 runs scored in 297 at-bats. Tatis is a no-doubt must-start in all leagues when he's active. David Peralta is in right field and is batting seventh, while infielder Jake Cronenworth moves up to the two-hole on Tuesday against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
1 hour agoCincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl (hamstring) is not in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates. Freidl was pulled from Monday's series opener with hamstring tightness that isn't considered serious. For now, fantasy managers should consider him to be day-to-day. With Friedl sidelined, Stuart Fairchild is starting in center field and will bat leadoff against Pirates left-hander Bailey Falter. Check back on Wednesday to see if Friedl is able to return for the series finale. The 28-year-old outfielder has some serious fantasy value when he's facing right-handed pitching, but injuries have held him back in 2024, and he's currently hitting only .214 (18-for-84) with four homers and six stolen bases. Fairchild will have some DFS sleeper appeal atop the lineup. He's hitting just .227 (27-for-119) with four homers and six steals.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Cincinnati Reds
Share:
1 hour agoPittsburgh Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz is sitting out on Tuesday against left-hander Nick Lodolo and the visiting Cincinnati Reds. With Cruz out, Jared Triolo will start at shortstop and bat seventh against Lodolo. Cruz is hitting just .113 (7-for-62) with two of his nine home runs, three walks and 23 strikeouts in 65 plate appearances against southpaws this year, so he'll take a seat in this one against a tough left-hander. He's currently in the midst of a four-game hitting streak in which he's gone 6-for-17 (.353) with two doubles and four RBI. Cruz has been better in the month of June, batting .296 (13-for-44) with two homers, three doubles, 10 RBI and a stolen bases as Pittsburgh's starting shortstop. Triolo has never faced Lodolo in his career and won't be a popular DFS sleeper on Tuesday.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
2 hours agoSt. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado is taking the day off on Tuesday against the hosting Miami Marlins. Amidst his recent slump, Arenado will head to the bench after going 3-for-20 in his last five games, including an 0-for-6 performance in the team's extra-inning win on Monday. The 33-year-old veteran's recent cold stretch has dropped his season slash line to .256/.310/.372. Arenado has added six home runs, 32 RBI and 25 runs scored for a disappointing Cardinals squad this year. In the month of June, Arenado has gone 15-for-60 (.250) with a homer, three doubles, six RBI, five walks and 12 strikeouts in 16 games played. With Arenado resting on Tuesday, veteran Brandon Crawford will take over at the hot corner and will bat eighth against Marlins right-hander Roddery Munoz.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: St. Louis Cardinals
Share:
2 hours agoThe Toronto Blue Jays recalled infield prospect Orelvis Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday and placed shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move with a right-calf strain. The team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, will now be an option at shortstop alongside Isiah Kiner-Falefa for the Blue Jays for however long Bichette remains out. For what it's worth, Kiner-Falefa is making another start at the 6 for Toronto on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Martinez was hitting .260/.343/.523 with 16 home runs in 63 games for Buffalo before getting the call to the Show for the first time in his career. Keep in mind that Martinez hasn't actually played short in the minors this year, so most of his playing time in the short term could come at either second or third base. He should already be rostered in dynasty/keeper leagues and could be worth a pickup in single-year leagues if he sees enough playing time.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Toronto Blue Jays
Share:
2 hours agoThe Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a right-calf strain and recalled infield prospect Orelvis Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Bichette has been sidelined with the injury since last Friday and will now miss additional time. It's unclear if he'll be able to return from the 10-day IL when he's eligible. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting again at the 6 on Tuesday and has been filling in at shortstop since Bichette's injury, but Martinez could also get some run at the position now that he's up in the big leagues. The 26-year-old Bichette has been one of the biggest disappointments for the Blue Jays in 2024. After making the All-Star team for the first time in his career last year, he's hitting .237 (61-for-257) with four homers and four stolen bases in 66 games. Despite the disappointment, keep him stashed in all leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Toronto Blue Jays
Share:
3 hours agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Luis Perales (elbow) is scheduled to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery. The right-hander was removed from his start in early June due to right elbow inflammation. Perales underwent further testing which revealed he needed to undergo surgery. This is a shame considering the 21-year-old is one of the top pitching prospects in the Red Sox system. He held a 2.94 ERA and 56/12 K/BB ratio during his time in Double-A this season. The expectation is that Perales won't be on the mound until late 2025.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Chris Cotillo
Share:
3 hours agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Mike Clevinger (elbow) is scheduled to make a minor-league rehab start at Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday. The right-hander is working his way back from elbow inflammation that has sidelined him since the end of May. The hope is that Clevinger is able to rejoin the White Sox's rotation after this start. The organization will likely wait and see how the 33-year-old feels before making a final decision. Clevinger has little fantasy upside at this point on the worst team in baseball, but he could have some streaming appeal in AL-only leagues in the right matchups.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Daryl Van Schouwen
