2 months agoNick Taylor is set to play at the Arnold Palmer Invitational this week after his last appearance at The Genesis Invitational last month, where he finished T39. He has missed only one cut in his six 2024 appearances, which includes one win and one top-10 finish. Although he missed the cut at last year's tournament, Taylor will be eager to perform better this year. If he continues his impressive approach play, he has a good chance of competing this week. In the last 12 months, Taylor has ranked in the 78th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway, and this is important as over 34% of approach shots at last year's tournament came from 150-200 yards. Taylor has been performing well in 2024 and is worth considering for DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
2 months agoAdam Svensson missed his third cut of the year at the Cognizant Classic last week. He had previously finished T10 at The Genesis Invitational last month. Although Svensson has been solid on approach and off the tee this year, his putting has been a letdown. He has only gained strokes with his putter in one of his seven appearances. Nevertheless, Svensson is ready to bounce back and has his sights set on the Arnold Palmer Invitational this week at Bay Hill. Although he missed the cut in 2022, he played well at last year's tournament, finishing T24. His approach play has been impeccable, with his proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway ranking in the 85th percentile over the last 12 months. Although Svensson has played well at times this year, his inconsistency could make him risky to include in DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
2 months agoNaturally, Emiliano Grillo wants to win at Bay Hill. The golfer from Argentina has had some mixed results at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He was in the Top 10 three years ago during the final round. However, a 74 derailed those chances as Grillo settled for a tie for 21st. Last year, he again ended up at +1 but this time he ended just inside the Top 40. In 2024, Grillo has putted well gaining 0.64 strokes (19th on the PGA Tour). The golfer will need his 66.67% driving accuracy and a few more yards on his drives to thrive this week. Also, a hot putter would help. Those over par rounds have hurt Grillo at Bay Hill in the past. 2 months agoJustin Rose will need several facets of his golf game to work very well this week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. For one, the English golfer cannot get into trouble like he did at the Cognizant Classic. Rose never got going last week and inched his way to a -1 through 72 holes. Putting has been his main strength ranking 21st on tour early on at 0.624 strokes gained. Too many weeks Rose has needed that putter to bail him out from errant tee shots and approaches. Ranking 145th off the tee and 164th approaching the green has made life for the 43-year old more difficult. If he does that this week, bogeys and worse could be on the scorecard often.Source: PGATour.com
2 months agoThe last two rounds for Adam Hadwin were excellent at The Genesis Invitational. The Canadian golfer shot 67-65 to sneak into a tie for fourth place. Hadwin skipped the Cognizant Classic to get a week off. It will be a challenge for Hadwin as in 2023, the golfer shot +5 through nine holes at Bay Hill and never recovered. With an average drive of 293.3 yards and a long course of 7,466 yards, expect the Canadian to need to set up shots and make for easier putts. Three years before, Hadwin also shot +5 on the back nine on the opening Thursday. Negotiating the early nerves will be vital. Source: PGATour.com
2 months agoLuke List has endured a couple of rough weeks recently. The American golfer has now missed the cut in two of his last three tournaments entered (Cognizant Classic and the WM Phoenix Open). With breezy, warm conditions expected at Bay Hill, that could play havoc with List's game. Again, Bay Hill is nearly 7,500 yards long and a par 72. With List's driving accuracy at 53.68% and drives less than 295 yards, that is a major concern heading into the Arnold Palmer Invitational. List will need to make putts early and often. 2 months agoAdam Schenk had a disappointing T56 finish in last week's Cognizant Classic. Although he carded a 69 in round two, he followed it up with a 73 in round three. Schenk has shown moments of brilliance, but his inconsistency is evident with two missed cuts in seven 2024 appearances. However, he is looking to bounce back this week at Bay Hill for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Schenk has performed well at this tournament, finishing T31 in 2023 and T42 in 2022. His impressive approach play, ranking in the 67th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway over the last 12 months, will be a crucial factor for him. While his iron play and past performance at Bay Hill make him a good option for DFS lineups, including him comes with some risk.Source: Data Golf
2 months agoIt has been a turbulent run over the past two months for the 2021 U.S. Open Champion Matt Fitzpatrick. Where there have been top-15 finishes, there have been missed cuts close by. However, we are hitting a part in the tour schedule that has yielded better putting performances for Fitzpatrick historically. Over his last eight attempts going back to 2016, he has gained an average of 1.148 strokes on the greens at Bay Hill. It is also worth noting that Matty Fitz is fourth in par-five scoring average (4.29) on the year and eighth in the same statistic for par-threes (2.94). The Englishman has been feast or famine through the first six events of his season, but avoiding the intangibles he has shown and the knack for Arnie's place could be a costly mistake.Source: PGA Tour
2 months agoIt has been a successful start to the season for Cameron Young. With his most recent T4 finish this past week at PGA National, it's not a matter of if he'll break into the winner's circle, it's when. The Wake Forrest product is a stat buffet, ranking 15th in strokes gained off the tee (.607), 39th in strokes gained from tee to green (.641), and 36th in total strokes gained (.782). His small but impressive sample size at Bay Hill (T10 and T13) is as competitive as anyone at the top of the board whose name isn't Rory McIlroy or Scottie Scheffler. Young is one of the brighter faces coming out of the newest pool of young players, and it would be no surprise to see him hanging around the lead again this week.Source: PGA Tour
2 months agoSo far in 2024, Justin Thomas has played in four events, which has resulted in one top-five, one top-10, one top-15, and a missed cut. However, it's worth noting that things have transpired in that order. JT still has the ball-striking prowess we've come to expect, but there has been no magic to be found with his putter. He ranks eighth in strokes gained from tee to green (1.342), 11th in strokes gained around the green (.563), and 39th in strokes gained on approach (.446). The flip side of that coin, though, is a rank of 152nd in strokes gained putting (minus-.554). He hasn't made much effort to play this event in past years, with his only start coming last year (T21). The Alabama alum isn't quite the draw he was a couple of seasons ago. However, he still possesses the ability to take over a tournament if he's firing on all cylinders. At $10,300 on FanDuel, Thomas isn't a must-have addition to a lineup, but he isn't a fade either.Source: PGA Tour
2 months agoComing off a T10 finish at the Genesis Invitational, Tommy Fleetwood has made the most of the early season. He already has a win under his belt on the DP World Tour and is coming to an event where he has had very respectable finishes in the past (six of seven on made cuts) that include two top-10s and a top-three finish. Bay Hill has traditionally been a course that caters to the same players year after year. Once a player learns its nuances, it typically yields solid results. And using Fleetwood in a lineup is going to take that same justification. The Englishman isn't appealing in most stat categories, as he ranks outside the top 120 in all ball-striking strokes-gained metrics. His wedge play around the green (41st in strokes gained around the green at .262) and putting (84th in strokes gained putting at .087) are his only appealing stats, so taking him at $10,200 on FanDuel is merely a gut play that could pay off in a big way.Source: PGA Tour
2 months agoThe return to golf for Will Zalatoris has been swift and emphatic. He hasn't won, but he has gotten darn close. With a T2 finish at Riviera, Willy Z is coming into the Florida swing with perhaps the most momentum of anyone. He hasn't lost in any strokes-gained statistic since the Sony Open (his first tournament back) and looks more confident rolling the rock than perhaps we've ever seen him. He is ranked 15th in strokes gained on approach (.688) and 21st in strokes gained from tee to green (1.005). His course history at Bay Hill is also solid (T53--T38--T10). At $10,500 on FanDuel, if you can stomach the massive ownership percentage, Zalatoris is a no-brainer.Source: PGA Tour
2 months agoStephen Jaeger missed the cut at last week's Cognizant Classic after carding a 71 in round 2, marking his first missed cut in 2024. He'll look to rebound this week at Bay Hill when he tees it up for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Although Jaeger did not appear at last year's edition, he finished T52 in 2022, making 2024 his second appearance. Jaeger's approach play has been impressive over the past year. He ranks in the 59th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. This is worth noting because over 34% of approach shots came from 150-200 yards last year. Despite his disappointing performance last week, Jaeger has the skill set required to be considered for inclusion in DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
2 months agoShane Lowry finished tied for fourth after firing a disappointing 71 in the final round of last week's Cognizant Classic after being tied for the lead following Round 3. Lowry heads to Bay Hill to tee it up in this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he finished 67th in 2023 and missed the cut in 2021. Lowry will have a chance to redeem himself this week if he can continue his strong approach play. Over the last 12 months, he ranks in the 67th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway, and at last year's tournament, over 34% of approach shots were taken from 150-200 yards. Lowry has been playing well, but his past performances at Bay Hill suggest that including him in DFS lineups comes with some risk.Source: Data Golf
2 months agoSi Woo Kim has been in scintillating form to start the 2024 season. Kim has four top-25 finishes in the six events he's played in, and his worst finish is T44, coming at The Genesis Invitational two weeks ago. Kim has played well at Bay Hill, finishing T39 in 2023 and T26 in 2022. In addition, over the last 12 months, Kim ranks in the 84th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway, and at last year's tournament, over 34% of approach shots came from 150-200 yards. Kim could go overlooked this week but could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
