It's a bit surprising to see Jason Day, who is inside the top 30 in FedEx Cup points and continues to show great form, make the trip this week to Illinois for one of the more mundane events on the PGA Tour schedule. However, it does present an opportunity for the Aussie to be one of the few proven veterans in the field. He's coming off a T4 at the Travelers, which is heavily reliant on wedge and short iron work like TPC Deere Run. Except, scores this week will need to be five to 10 shots better than what they were in Cromwell to have a chance. The 37-year-old has done a lot with his short game this season, ranking 14th in strokes gained around the green (+0.355), but there are definite holes elsewhere. His world-class status in the game makes him a safe bet to play all four rounds, but how competitively serious he'll be with The Open just a couple of weeks away makes pulling the trigger difficult on the field's second-most expensive player.--Todd McGill
