Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Jace LaViolette is not likely to play affiliated baseball for the Guardians this year, according to Guardians team president Chris Antonetti. The team's first-round pick in this year's MLB Draft broke his left hand during the SEC Tournament and subsequently underwent surgery, but was able to continue playing afterward. The Texas A&M product recently had a cleanup procedure on that same hand, which is why he's not expected to begin affiliated play this year. Despite that, the 21-year-old is expected to head to the team's player development complex in Arizona later this summer. Hopefully this will get his hand right and he can hit the ground running in 2026, as the youngster has some big-time power in his 6-foot-6 frame.

New York Yankees outfield prospect
Spencer Jones went 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, and four runs scored on Sunday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 6-foot-7 slugger is scorching for the RailRiders, homering in three straight contests and now hitting .426 with ten home runs and a smoldering 1.422 OPS through 16 games at Triple-A. The Yanks' second-ranked prospect still has an elevated strikeout rate of 26.6 percent, but with this type of power display, it shouldn't hinder his chances of receiving a call-up in the coming weeks. Managers in deep leagues and AL-only leagues should consider stashing the 24-year-old ahead of an eventual call-up, which could come sooner rather than later at this type of pace.

Arizona Diamondbacks designated hitter/first baseman
Pavin Smith (oblique) has begun taking dry swings as he works back from a strained right oblique. The Diamondbacks still don't have a timetable to return for Smith, who landed on the 10-day injured list on July 6. Playing almost exclusively against right-handed pitchers, the lefty-swinging Smith has hit .261/.371/.446 with eight home runs, 28 RBI, and 33 runs scored in 264 plate appearances this season. Texas Rangers reliever
Chris Martin (calf) left early in a 2-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Sunday after suffering a calf strain, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. It truly added injury to insult for Martin, who fell to 1-6 on the season after giving up an earned run on three hits in two-thirds of an inning. Philadelphia Phillies catching prospect
Eduardo Tait is getting promoted to High-A Jersey Shore. The Phils' fourth-ranked prospect was having a solid season at Single-A before his promotion, slashing .251/.322/.436 with 11 home runs and 51 RBI, both of which were tops in the Florida State League. The left-handed slugger also logged a 19.3 percent strikeout rate and a 9.0 percent walk rate, both of which are slightly better than average. Impressively, the Panamanian did all that at just 18 years of age, so it will be interesting to see how he fares at the next level. He figures to be a few years away from an MLB debut, however.

Chase DeLauter is expected to visit a hand specialist early in the coming week. The former first-round draft pick has been out of action since July 11 with a wrist injury, and the fact he's meeting with a specialist doesn't bode well for a quick return, although details have been scarce as to what is ailing the left-handed slugger other than he was dealing with soreness. The Guardians' second-ranked prospect missed time over the last couple of seasons due to foot injuries and missed the start of 2025 after he underwent sports hernia surgery, so this has become a problematic trend for the 23-year-old. He was having a good season at Triple-A in his limited sample, slashing .278/.383/.476 with five home runs in 34 games, and looked like he was on the precipice of a major league debut, but those hopes could fade drastically depending on what comes of the upcoming visit with the specialist. We should have more clarity later in the week.
