Padres Looking To Work Out Extension With Juan Soto
1 year agoSan Diego Padres general manager A.J. Preller said the "first path" with outfielder Juan Soto this offseason is to work out a contract extension. "We've never been a group that says no to anything. I wouldn't read into that. That's just kind of the way we operate," Preller said when asked if he'd consider trading Soto. The 24-year-old All-Star is heading into his final year of arbitration and will likely command a deal over $30 million in 2024. The 24-year-old Dominican led the league with 132 walks in his first full year in San Diego in 2023 and also hit a strong .275/.410/.519 with a career-high 35 home runs, 32 doubles, a triple, 109 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 97 runs scored in all 162 games of the regular season. It was Soto's second 30-homer campaign and a nice rebound following a disappointing 2022 campaign.
