NFL Intent On Banning Hip-Drop Tackles
11 months agoThe NFL is seemingly intent on banning hip-drop tackles this offseason if it can properly define the technique. The league's Jeff Miller said: "I don't want to suggest we're at the finish line. We're not.... [But] I think we're moving down that path in a constructive way. Elements likely to be included in the NFL's definition of a hip-drop tackle include the tackler swiveling, landing on the ball-carrier's legs and pivoting in a way not seen in a typical tackle." NFL commissioner Roger Goodell previously said the tackling technique has no place in the game, so look for the league to crack down on it hard this offseason and for the upcoming 2024 season in order to prevent more injuries to offensive players. Notable players that were injured in 2023 because of this tackling technique include Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson, Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith and Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
