Michael Pineda On Injured List, Devin Smeltzer Called Up
6 years agoThe Minnesota Twins placed starting pitcher Michael Pineda (knee) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with right knee tendinitis and called up starter Devin Smeltzer, who will make his major league debut on Tuesday against the Brewers. Pineda allowed three runs in six innings in his start on Monday night and is 4-3 in 11 starts this year with a 5.34 ERA. His last four outings have all been quality starts. Pineda needed surgery for a torn meniscus in the same knee last year, so it's concerning that he's dealing with more knee issues. Smeltzer was acquired from the Dodgers in the Brian Dozier trade last year and went 3-1 with a 0.60 ERA while striking out 33 hitters in 30 innings with Double-A Pensacola to begin the year. He had a 1.82 ERA in four starts for Triple-A before the call-up. Against Milwaukee in his big league debut, Smeltzer is a very risky streaming proposition.
