Michael McGreevy Could Be Used as Spot Starter This Month
Michael McGreevy could be in line for more work with the big league club as the calendar turns to June. The Cardinals don't have an off day until June 16, then they do not see another off day until July 3, which could put stress on the starting rotation and bullpen. The team could still use veteran Steven Matz as a spot starter, as that's what he's been for most of his career, but McGreevy has had success in the majors already and could be strategically deployed to give their regular five-man rotation the necessary rest in between starts. McGreevy debuted in 2024, making four appearances (three starts) for the Cards, and has made one start already in 2025. All in all, the Cardinals' 10th-ranked prospect is 4-0 with a 1.57 ERA, 0.70 WHIP, and an 18.9 percent K-BB% thanks to a 23:3 K:BB in 28 2/3 IP. Given that success, the former first-round draft pick would be a viable DFS or streaming option against most teams were he to get recalled.
