After coming off of a career-high 12 top 10 finishes during the 2022 Cup Series season, and despite showing slightly better-than-expected speed to start out the 2023 year, Michael McDowell is still on the hunt for his first top 10 finish this year. However, the good news is that he could legitimately compete for one this weekend in the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas on Sunday. McDowell showed good speed in practice on Friday, posting the 6th-fastest individual lap along with the 7th-best five-lap average, but he went off course during his qualifying run on Saturday and will have to start midpack back in 20th for the race. --Jordan McAbee
