Max Scherzer to Face Live Hitters in Game Setting This Weekend
Max Scherzer (thumb) is a minor-league rehab game in the rookie-level Florida Complex League or a simulated game in Florida this weekend. Scherzer threw almost 40 pitches to live hitters on Tuesday and continues to progress in his rehab from a crank right thumb that has limited him to just one start in his first year in Toronto. If he can avoid any further setbacks, it's realistic to think he can come off the injured list and rejoin Toronto's starting rotation by the end of June. In his lone start against the Baltimore Orioles on March 29, Scherzer allowed two earned runs on two homers while striking out one in just three innings. The three-time Cy Young winner is no longer the dominant ace we've come to expect, and now he's also very injury-prone.
