Matt Chapman Can Begin Rehabbing in a Week
Matt Chapman (hand) received good news on Friday after visiting with a hand specialist in Los Angeles and was told that he can start rehabbing his injured hand in around a week. Until then, Chapman will be in a splint due to sprained ligaments in his hand. A report from ESPN's Buster Olney earlier on Friday suggested that the 32-year-old Gold Glover could miss all of June with his hand injury. While that still could be the case, depending on how his rehab goes when he resumes baseball activities, this new update is more optimistic. Barring a setback, we'd guess that Chapman will be back before the All-Star break in mid-July. In the meantime, keep him stashed in an IL spot in fantasy leagues. Casey Schmitt is a big downgrade at the hot corner both offensively and defensively for the Giants, but he did hit his first home run of the season earlier this week. UPDATE: It will be around three or four weeks before he's ready to return.
