After starting out 2-0-2 in the UFC, Marina Rodriguez dropped her first career bout against the former strawweight champion, Carla Esparza. Rodriguez was unable to stop the takedown, being driven to the mat five out of nine times. She did land a solid 91 strikes, including an elbow from the bottom in the first round, which cut open Esparza. The bout was a split decision, so one judge did think Rodriguez did enough to win the bout. Esparza is one of the toughest opponents Rodriguez could have been matched up against. Anyone lower than Esparza is definitely worth considering starting Rodriguez in the future.--Matt Bricker
