Luke Voit 2021 Player Outlook: Meteoric Rise To Top-Six First Baseman
4 years agoNew York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit utilized a shortened season to make a lengthy statement of his offensive prowess. The 2020 season reinvigorated those that were let down by a 2019 performance that didn't resemble the success he had the year prior. Voit's 22 homers not only led the league, but they were the most of his career. It is true that his Max Exit Velo (111.7 mph), Barrel (13.1%), and Hard Hit (40%) rates were inferior to 2019, but it was the increase in Launch Angle (15.2 degrees) that made difference. Voit also made other improvements at the plate with career-bests in Swinging Strike (13.3%) and Z-Contact (83%) rates. 2021 looks like an opportunity for Voit to reaffirm his place as a premium power bat in the league, assuming he maintains a similar launch angle. To get a power-hitting first baseman that possesses a place in the top third of a dynamic Yankees' lineup, you'll have to call his name near pick 60. Voit will be worth it.
