Luke Raley to Begin Hitting Progression on Tuesday
Luke Raley (back) will start a hitting progression on Tuesday and will hopefully start a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend, according to Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times. Raley was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 30 with back spasms but he is working way back and could rejoin the Mariners as early as next week, barring a setback during his rehab assignment this weekend. When the 30-year-old left-handed slugger returns, he'll be searching for playing time between designated hitter and right field for the M's when they face right-handed pitchers. Raley's inconsistent playing time and mediocre bat don't make him much of an option for fantasy managers in mixed leagues. He's currently hitting just .220/.343/.348 with four home runs, 18 RBI and 19 runs scored in his 49 games for Seattle.
