Kyle Wright 2020 Outlook: Look for Rebound after Strong Second Half
5 years agoThe 2019 season likely didn’t go as well as Kyle Wright would have liked. On the plus side, he reached the Majors for the first time in his pro career but he spent much of the first half of the season on a yo-yo between the Majors and Triple-A. He often went long stretches without pitching which bit into his routine — a tough thing for any young pitcher. In 13 first-half starts in the minors, he had a 4.92 ERA with a K-BB of 62-18 in 64 innings. In eight second-half starts when he pitched with consistency, he had a 3.17 ERA with a K-BB of 54-17 in 48.1 innings. Those second-half numbers are far more indicative of the potential that Wright has — and improved command will help him take yet another step forward with the potential to develop into a No. 2 or 3 starter for the Braves. Wright doesn’t appear to have a clear path to a big-league role on opening day but he should be the first pitcher called up.
