5/24:New York Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki made his rehab assignment debut on Wednesday for Triple-A Las Vegas, and suffice to say, it was a good one. Plawecki played five innings at the backstop position, and hit a home run. You can’t ask for much more than that. Plawecki will need a few more days before he’s ready to join the big club, but clearly he’s on the right track. The question here is what his playing time situation will be like with the recently-acquired Devin Mesoraco. Mesoraco has played pretty well, but we’re still likely looking at something close to a near-split – assuming Plawecki plays well enough to deserve it.--John Smith
