Julian Merryweather Out With Back Tightness
Julian Merryweather is once again on the sidelines after suffering from back tightness. The hard-throwing right-hander was originally acquired from Cleveland for third baseman Josh Donaldson but was recovering from Tommy John surgery at that time. He spent the majority of 2020 at the Jays' alternate training site but he also missed time due to elbow tendinitis. The club had planned to stretch out Merryweather this spring to make him available for starting if the need arose. The early injury could alter those plans but nothing has been decided.
