Joey Votto Expected To Return In Early September
1 year agoCincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto (shoulder), who was put on the injured list with shoulder discomfort on Thursday, is expected to return in early September, according to manager David Bell. Votto had surgery on the same left shoulder last year, and it caused him to miss the first couple of months of the 2023 season. However, it doesn't sound like the latest injury to his surgically repaired left shoulder is all that serious, so the Reds should have him back for the final month of the regular season as they push for a spot in the postseason. The 39-year-old six-time All-Star is no longer the player he once was, but he can still provide some pop from the left side from time to time for Cincy. In 195 plate appearances in 2023, he's hitting .200/.303/.459 with 13 home runs, 33 RBI and 20 runs scored in 51 games.
