Joey Gase Could Struggle To Keep Up At Daytona But Remains A Tournament Play
4 months agoJoey Gase is in the No. 44 Chevrolet for NY Racing Team at Daytona International Speedway this weekend, as the organization will be racing in just its fourth Cup Series event of the season on Saturday night. Previously, J.J. Yeley piloted this No. 44 Chevrolet to 34th-, 40th-, and 35th-place finishes at Las Vegas, Charlotte, and Pocono (respectively) earlier this year. This weekend, Gase was the slowest car in qualifying by quite a large margin. He was over two miles per hour slower than the 38th-fastest car and a full eight miles per hour slower than the pole-winning speed. This brings into question whether or not Gase's equipment will be able to hang with the pack when the Coke Zero Sugar 400 goes green on Saturday night. With that being said, Gase could still be a sneaky tournament play this weekend if the race turns chaotic. If the No. 44 Chevrolet is able to avoid chaos and carnage, it's certainly possible that Gase could end up with a top-20 finish and solid Place Differential points in DraftKings. Even though his equipment is significantly worse than the field, Gase could end up being a good DFS play on Saturday night, as weird as that sounds.
