Javier Baez Still Away Thursday
1 year agoDetroit Tigers shortstop Javier Baez remains away from the team on Thursday as the Tigers take on the Cleveland Guardians. Zack Short is starting at shortstop and is batting ninth against Guardians right-hander Xzavion Curry. Baez remains on the bereavement list after being placed on it last Saturday due to his grandmother's death. The 30-year-old should be back by at least this Saturday against the Guardians. Baez continues to disappoint in his second season with the Tigers, hitting .221/.262/.320 with only seven home runs, 12 doubles, four triples, 50 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 50 runs scored in 444 plate appearances over 109 games. He's been even worse since the All-Star break, going 17-for-82 (.207) with a homer, double, triple, six RBI, 22 strikeouts, four steals and 15 runs scored in 24 games (22 starts).
