6/5:New York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas has had an absolutely miserable season, but he has as good a chance as any to actually make it two solid starts in a row when he takes on the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. Vargas is coming off only his second non-disastrous outing in six starts this year, when he unexpectedly threw five shutout innings against the Atlanta Braves last Wednesday. If there was any matchup where Vargas would have streaming appeal, facing the Orioles at home could be the one. Baltimore has scored only 215 runs this year, ranking 29th in baseball, and their .682 team OPS ranks 27th. On the road, they’re even worse with a .643 OPS. If Vargas isn’t able to improve on his 8.53 ERA in this one, chances are he never will.--John Smith
