Ian Kennedy Locks Down His Fourth Save Thursday
3 years agoArizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Ian Kennedy converted the save in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds. He pitched the ninth inning and allowed a solo home run to Reds second baseman Matt Reynolds, but that was all the damage that was done. Kennedy is now 4-for-6 in save opportunities this year with a 3.57 ERA. The team's primary closer, Mark Melancon, was utilized in the eighth inning on Thursday. It wasn't a typical setup situation, ,though, as the Diamondbacks were trailing 3-1 going into the eighth. Melancon blew his last save opportunity and has an ugly 6.52 ERA on the year. Kennedy is a solid speculative add for future saves, as Melancon's job could be in jeopardy.
