As reported by Rob Demovsky, the Green Bay Packers will hire former Cleveland head coach Mike Pettine as its defensive coordinator. Pettine will be taking over the role from the recently fired Dom Capers. Pettine had a short and uninspiring run in Cleveland that was cut short in an arguably unfair manner. Previously, he had served as defensive coordinator for the New York Jets under Rex Ryan from 2009-2012 where he led some of the NFL's best defenses. Pettine runs a similar defensive system to Capers, at least from a personnel standpoint, so the transition should be fairly seamless. Capers had clearly fallen behind the times and his play calling and blitz packages had started to get predictable. Pettine should provide a new spark that should elevate play from that unit as a whole.--Tyger McGuigganRead More News
