Gerrit Cole To Start For AL In All-Star Game
1 year agoNew York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole has been named the starter for the American League in Tuesday's All-Star game in Seattle. Cole is unlikely to go for more than a few innings after making his last start of the first half of the season on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs, when he went 7 1/3 innings. The 32-year-old right-hander remains one of the best pitchers in baseball after going 9-2 with a strong 2.85 ERA (3.43 FIP), 1.12 WHIP, 34 walks and 123 strikeouts in 117 innings over 19 starts in the first half. This year will be Cole's sixth All-Star appearance in his 11 years in the big leagues. So far in his two starts in July, he's allowed five earned runs on 11 hits while walking three and striking out 10 in 13 1/3 innings.
