Garrett Hampson Continues To Scuffle
6 years agoThe good news is that the Colorado Rockies are letting infielder Garrett Hampson start nearly every game while first baseman Daniel Murphy remains sidelined due to his finger injury. The bad news is that Hampson has been dreadful so far. The 24-year-old has tallied just three hits in his first 31 plate appearances, none have been for extra bases, he hasn't walked a single time yet, he hasn't attempted to steal any bases, and he's striking out nearly 30% of the time, way more than he ever has at any other level. In fact, his -0.6 fWAR so far this season is tied for the worst in the league (with Chris Davis, the new record-holder for longest hitless streak in history). Hampson will almost assuredly eventually find his way out of this funk, but Rockies management may not be willing to wait that long.
