Freddie Freeman Missing Another Game
4 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (finger) is out of the starting lineup for a third straight game on Thursday in the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles at Dodger Stadium. Veteran utility man Enrique Hernandez will make another start at first and will hit sixth for the Blue against Orioles rookie left-hander Cade Povich. Freeman initially suffered a hairline fracture in his right middle finger on Aug. 17 but was playing through the injury before this week. In the six games that he's played in since the injury, though, he's gone 3-for-23 (.130) with two doubles, an RBI, two walks and seven strikeouts, so perhaps his finger is giving him more issues than initially expected. If Freeman ends up needing a stint on the injured list, Hernandez would soak up even more playing time in the final month of the regular season. Hernandez has hit just .218 in 303 at-bats in 2024 with nine homers and 33 RBI. UPDATE: Manager Dave Roberts said that Freeman will be back in the starting lineup for the start of a big series on Friday in Arizona against the Diamondbacks.
