Cole Hamels Holding A Showcase July 16
3 years agoFree-agent left-hander Cole Hamels will hold a showcase for interested teams on July 16 in Texas, and he's expected to get a nice turnout. There are quite a few teams looking for starting rotation upgrades due to injuries as we get ready to close out the first half of the season. Hamels is 37 years old and obviously isn't the four-time All-Star that he was earlier in his illustrious career with the Phillies, but if he's healthy and able to eat innings, it's likely that a team in need will take a chance on him at a lower cost. The veteran left-hander only made one start for the Braves last year before injuries struck, but he did have a decent 3.81 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a 9.1 K/9 in 141 2/3 innings (27 starts) in his last healthy season with the Chicago Cubs in 2019. There won't be much of a fantasy ceiling, but Hamels might be worth a flier in AL- or NL-leagues in the right matchups if he signs with a team.
