San Diego Padres third baseman Christian Villanueva is out of the lineup Thursday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. Villanueva is mired in a treacherous 0-for-28 slump and his batting average has dipped all the way from .348 to .243 since April 28. The night off could allow him to clear his mind. Villanueva was a revelation after belting eight homers and winning NL Rookie of the Month honors in April but the downturn is surely frustrating fantasy owners. He should be benched as he works through the cold streak but could remain useful especially against lefties (1.441 OPS). Infielder Chase Headley will man the hot corner and bat fifth in Villanueva's absence.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
