Cesar Hernandez To Receive Look In Leadoff Spot
6 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said the team likely will give second baseman Cesar Hernandez "a long look" in the leadoff spot this spring and described him as "an ideal leadoff hitter" based on his .378 on-base percentage in the first half last season. Hernandez wasn't nearly as good in the second half and finished 2018 with a .253/.356/.362 slash line, career-high 15 home runs, 60 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 161 games. In a more potent lineup, Hernandez could be a good source of runs and steals, but don't expect an improvement in the power department. He's middle infield depth in deep mixed leagues in the later rounds. New outfielder Andrew McCutchen is also a candidate to hit leadoff.
