Carlos Carrasco No Longer Throwing Off Mound
4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (hamstring), currently on the 60-day injured list, began throwing off a mound last week but is now no longer doing so. Manager Luis Rojas claims that Carrasco did not suffer a setback or reinjury, but that, instead, the focus is on strengthening his hamstring. There remains no timeline for Carrasco's return. Carrasco was initially expected to return to the Mets around the week of May 9. Instead, he remains weeks, if not months, away from a return to the rotation. Carrasco has yet to throw a single pitch for the New York Mets, after being traded from Cleveland in the off-season. Carrasco had a solid 2020 with the Indians posting a 2.91 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched. At this point, with the continued delays in his recovery timeline, one has to wonder whether Carrasco will even pitch in 2021. If Carrasco eventually returns to the injury-ravaged Mets rotation, he should slot in as their SP2. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor this situation. That said, if Carrasco is taking up a roster spot in redraft formats, fantasy managers wouldn't be crazy to look elsewhere for some production.
