The Arizona Coyotes have selected defenseman Dmitry Simashev with the sixth overall pick of the 2023 NHL Draft. It's an off-the-board type of selection for the continually rebuilding 'Yotes as Simashev was well down many draft projection boards but he will nonetheless join an organization that finished 27th with 70 points a season ago. A lengthy blueliner at 6-foot-4, the 18-year-old played last season with Yaroslavl Loko Jr. in his native Russia last season, notching one goal and 10 points across 29 contests. A raw prospect, Simashev will likely need plenty of seasoning before he plays his first game in the NHL.--Brenton Kemp
