Anthony Volpe Steals His 11th Base Friday
2 years agoNew York Yankees rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe still hasn't been thrown out on the base paths in 2023. Volpe went 2-for-5 as the leadoff hitter in the team's 5-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays and stole his 11th base of the season. The 22-year-old may only be hitting .221 (23-for-104) with three doubles, a triple, three home runs and nine RBI in his first 32 major-league games, but he's a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen-base attempts in his rookie season. He's also had multi-hit games in two of his last three contests, so hopefully he's starting to get locked in at the plate as well. Volpe continues to pull his weight early on this year and should only get better with more experience.
