Anthony Volpe Could Move Back To Leadoff Spot
1 year agoNew York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he's considered moving rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe back to the top of the order to try and get the team's offense going. Boone likes how Volpe has been controlling the strike zone over the past three weeks. Volpe got the start in the six-hole in the lineup on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles, but we could see him atop the order sooner than later. The 22-year-old is hitting just .225 (64-for-284) on the year, but he's gotten off to a great start so far in July and is hitting .439 (18-for-41) with two homers, two doubles, a triple, three RBI and a stolen base in 47 plate appearances in his last 13 games since June 20. Volpe's fantasy ceiling would obviously be raised if he moves back to the top of the order.
