Alex Wood Will Be A Starter
2 years agoSan Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler confirmed that left-hander Alex Wood will be used as a starter to open the 2023 season. Wood struggled in his second season with the Giants last year, going 8-12 with a 5.10 ERA (3.76 FIP), 1.24 WHIP and 23.6 percent strikeout rate in 130 2/3 innings over 26 starts, so there were some wondering if the team would move him to a relief role this year. The 32-year-old southpaw also dealt with a left shoulder injury late in the year, but he's fully healthy this spring and will be built up as a starter. If Wood is in the starting rotation to begin the regular season, he'll bring up the rear and is a low-upside health risk for fantasy managers in deeper leagues. Wood will ideally be a matchup-based streaming option.
