Alex Verdugo Resting In First-Half Finale
1 year agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo is not in the starting lineup against the visiting Oakland Athletics in the final game of the first half of the season on Sunday. Verdugo will get a day of rest after starting the team's last 11 games. He'll finish the first half of 2023 with a strong .290 average (95-for-328) with seven home runs, 26 doubles, four triples, 38 RBI, three stolen bases and 57 runs scored in 367 plate appearances and 82 games played. Verdugo has four hits in the last two games, but he's gone only 5-for-29 (.172) with two homers, six RBI and five runs scored in the first seven games of July. Adam Duvall is starting in right field for the BoSox on Sunday and will hit cleanup against A's left-hander JP Sears.
