Alex Cobb Throws Five Scoreless Innings In Rehab Start
5 months agoIn his first minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, San Francisco Giants veteran right-hander Alex Cobb (hip) struck out four over five scoreless innings while throwing 60 pitches. Manager Bob Melvin said the Giants will check in with Cobb before determining his next steps, but the skipper suggested the 36-year-old could return during the team's next homestand from July 26-31 if he continues to feel good. Cobb progressed well in his rehab from offseason hip surgery but hit another setback when he felt mild shoulder irritation before throwing a bullpen session on April 16. He was moved to the 60-day injured list on April 20 and attempted to resume throwing after that but was shut down again after more soreness in his shoulder. Cobb is injury-prone and doesn't miss a ton of bats, but he could be a deep-league fantasy streamer down the stretch if he can stay healthy.
