Alec Burleson Fouls Pitch Off Knee, Leaves Early on Monday
Alec Burleson (knee) was removed from Monday's game early at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies after fouling a pitch off his right knee in the seventh inning, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Burleson looked to be in a lot of pain as he limped to the dugout. He was replaced in left field by Garrett Hampson. Before leaving, Burleson was 0-for-4 at the plate with two strikeouts, so it was a pretty bad day all around. The Cardinals will most likely send him for X-rays, and we should know later on Monday or early Tuesday whether the 26-year-old is dealing with a serious injury. Losing the former second-rounder for a long stretch of time would be a big blow for St. Louis and fantasy managers as Burleson has been solid this year with a .293/.340/.470 slash line, .810 OPS, 12 homers, 44 RBI and 32 runs in 300 at-bats.
